Strategy
The Challenge
The digital infrastructure was crumbling under the weight of a decade-old codebase, creating significant security risks and stifling organic growth.
Built on a deprecated Joomla platform, the previous site suffered from a rigid "box container" layout that broke on modern devices. Beyond the visual obsolescence, the architecture prevented the necessary segmentation required for international markets. With customers in Ireland, the UK, and Australia needing specific content and currency variations, the monolithic legacy system could no longer support the brand's expanding global footprint or internal content workflows.
The Solution
We engineered a bespoke WordPress ecosystem designed to handle multi-region complexities while prioritizing heritage storytelling and product discovery.
The solution moved away from static templates to a dynamic, modular design that integrated the new corporate identity. Key features included a custom "recipe loop" to engage food enthusiasts and a dedicated eCommerce sub-domain for direct-to-consumer sales. We developed a sophisticated store locator and a multi-page interactive history tour, ensuring that whether a user was browsing for recipes or buying black pudding, the journey was intuitive, fast, and fully responsive across all territories.
The Process
The process began with a rigorous audit of the failing legacy infrastructure, establishing a comprehensive migration roadmap that prioritized data security and regional segmentation before commencing any visual interface design or frontend development work.
We began by auditing the existing Joomla database to map critical content and safeguard SEO equity during the migration. Following the technical roadmap, the design phase focused on translating the physical packaging's warmth into a digital UI. Development proceeded with a focus on custom post types for the recipe catalogue, rigorous testing of the regional IP redirection logic, and the integration of the separate shop subdomain to facilitate frictionless transactions without compromising the main brand site's speed.
