The Challenge
The festival possessed an international reputation that was not reflected in its fragmented visual output.
While the programming was world-class, featuring distinct strands for short films and film scores, the communication materials lacked a unified voice. The absence of a rigorous design system meant that marketing collateral—from programmes to digital screens—felt disjointed, diluting the perceived authority of the event in a crowded cultural calendar.
The Process
Our stewardship focused on the "Festival Architecture," treating the printed programme as a collectible artifact rather than a disposable guide.
We worked closely with the curators to structure the information hierarchy, ensuring that the user journey through the festival schedule was intuitive. This clarity extended to the motion graphics, where we developed a motion language that mimicked the shutter flicker of a projector, grounding the digital assets in the mechanical heritage of film.
